Connections to the Real World

Chapter 4:
In Lord of the Flies, many things are connected to the real world outside the book. The author has done an excellent job to connect his book to the real world. At first when Roger throws stones at Henry and misses on purpose to get his attention. Similarly, in schools when the teachers try to get the attention of the students; they raise their voice either even though they do not want to just to get everyone’s attention or some of the teachers sometimes make some sort of noise to get the students’ focus down at them. Then later when the hunters do not do a job of taking care of the smoke and Ralph gets angry with them. Correspondingly, when the government in any country does not do a good job for keeping their promises, for keeping their citizens peacefully then public starts to protest to get their needs fulfilled like in 1960 and 1970 when the young adults would protest for “Save our environment”. When a country decides to go on war without even caring about the citizens and then the public protests for “Make love not war”. All this is part of the daily life in the politics and the world.

Chapter 5:
In this chapter, When Ralph wants to be solemn about the assembly and calling them not for fun or laughter and everyone takes it as a joke (except Piggy) and ignores what he says. Likewise, in the school when there are any group, projects and the members do not take it seriously and one end up doing the whole project or the assignment by yourself. Here, the boys together has to take care of the fire but Ralph ends up having the responsibility by himself and then on other side they start a new topic again in the assembly about the beasties. Later in the chapter, they get confused that if there are any ghosts or not just, as the scientists today are. They try to get and make new equipments that will help them solve this problem. Other example from this chapter is that when the little Percival steps up and says that there is beast from the ocean that gives everyone nightmares at night. Then Jack shuts the littlun up and the littlun starts to cry. Similarly, in today’s society it is very difficult to stand against a bully. Alike Phil’s situation and to avoid further comments from Jack he just start to cry (he kind of have toL).

Chapter 6:
In this chapter, when Sam‘n’Eric first see the parachute landing they judged before even thinking which started worrying the others. Sometimes the scientists or a normal student would judge anything based on the ways or styles or even a material for the scientist to think that this asteroid might hit the earth. In the older days, they would guess the measurements inaccurately and then they would decide base on their knowledge but nowadays the scientists have to do the measurements accurately and get predictions and measurements proven by an expert to warn other (Earthlings). Obviously, they cannot have anything to see it precisely with but they could have been more detailed that they also saw the parachute. Ralph wanted smoke but they could not because of the beast as mentioned by the twins. There are sometimes when you want to do something but you do not have the power to do so or any luck. Like little kids when they want to be superman or Spiderman but they cannot because, they do not have the power to do so. Each bit and part of this book is connected to the real world and everyday situations.

For Chapter 4: I liked the comparison to the government and to the population disagreeing, although I thought that in the book the "government" aka Ralph is doing a pretty good job, and that the "citizens" are revolting just because they don't want to have to do any work.

Chapter 5: I agree with you about taking things seriously, it can also happen away from school projects, when you're trying to be serious and people think you're joking. But in my case it might be because it's something I've joked about before, which is not really Ralph's case. So you're example is probably better.

Chapter 6: When Sam'n'eric see the "beast" not only to they jump to conclusions, like you mentioned, they also wildly exaggerate what they really saw. They say they saw fangs and that it chased them away, when none of that really happened. And we all know someone who always seems make thier stories a little more exciting than they probably really were.

Oh, I'm guessing the last picture is "the beast"? That's cool, although I wouldn't want to see those in the middle of the night.

My rabbit had eyes like that...except they were red.
